The 19-year-old injured in a crash at Maiden Gully a week ago remains in a critical but stable condition.

The Sunshine man was airlifted to The Alfred hospital in Melbourne after his car left the road and ran into a tree on Edwards Road on Boxing Day morning.

A MAN injured in a crash in Maiden Gully on Boxing Day remains in The Alfred hospital.

The 19-year-old is in a critical but stable condition.

He was yesterday airlifted to hospital in a life-threatening condition.

A SUNSHINE man has been airlifted to The Alfred hospital in Melbourne in a life-threatening condition after a single-vehicle crash.

The man, 19, was travelling west along Edwards Road when the crash occurred about 10.45am on Thursday. There were no other passengers in the car.

Bendigo Sergeant Mick McCrann said police were investigating speed as a factor.

"The Honda Accord appears to have left the road at a fast rate of speed," Sergeant McCrann said.

"In a 100-kilometre-an-hour zone out here, I'd expect that our investigations would reveal that he has been travelling somewhere in excess of that."

Sergeant McCrann said they had spoken to the people who were first on the scene, but asked any other witnesses to come forward.

"We encourage anyone else who may have driven through the scene or may have seen a similar vehicle driving in the area to come forward," he said.

Sergeant McCrann said Edwards Road would remain closed for another hour.

Police are trying to get in touch with the man's family.

Sergeant McCrann reminded people to take care on the roads.

"I would encourage people who see any bad driving behaviour to report it to police and we'll do the best we can to find these people and stop them," he said.

"Think about your driving behaviour. Think about the speed your going and whether you're in a condition to drive."

POLICE are directing traffic after a crash in Maiden Gully on Thursday morning.

The crash occurred on Edwards Road just after 10.30am on Boxing Day.

Country Fire Authority and ambulance crews are on scene, along with a tow truck.

Police have closed Edwards Road to traffic, from Byron Road at Marong to Kathleen Terrace at Maiden Gully.

VicRoads has recommended people avoid the area and use the Calder Highway and Calder Alternative Highway instead.
