As the newly appointed editor for Bendigo and the central west region encompassing Horsham, Stawell and Ararat, I am keen to build on the success of the recent integration of the Bendigo Weekly with the Bendigo Advertiser and to strengthen our ties with the community we serve.
Truth, accountability and honesty are the beacons that will guide us.
Doing what is good and right for Bendigo and the region is what we will continue to do.
2020 is about looking forward, building on our proud traditions and continuing to be Bendigo's most trusted and relied upon news provider.
There's an outstanding team of journalists, photographers, salespeople, production staff, administrative and other support staff here at the Addy who are equally committed to their roles and who know that in doing so, we serve you, our readers and our advertisers, best.
The Addy has a long and proud history dating back to December 1853, and I am honoured to once again join the list of editors who have led this paper's editorial team and to follow in the footsteps of so many inspiring leaders and journalists.
As our industry continues to evolve, more people than ever are choosing to engage with what the Addy does - both in print and online, and the digital coverage offered by the Addy team is both exceptional and something I have long admired.
Leading, nurturing and helping the news team continue to deliver news in the best possible way and in whatever format is a challenge I look forward to.
I am keen for us to engage even more with the community, and for readers to feel a heightened sense of ownership of, and pride in, their local paper.
I hope our efforts at better engagement will be reciprocated.
Back in October, as we put the final chapter of the 1141 editions that were the Bendigo Weekly to press, I said the proposed Addy merger would provide an opportunity to create one truly great paper for the people of this city and the broader region.
That journey is well underway, and continues.
Our commitment is to always be best, at each and every turn, in everything we do, and to produce the best local media not just in Bendigo, but across regional Australia.
The opportunity to serve this community is always a privilege, and one we are proud to continue.
