Mountain bike cancellation disappoints
I am very disappointed to hear Bendigo Mountain Biking Club must cancel the Golden Triangle Epic race next year.

This appears to be due to harsh restrictions imposed by Parks Victoria.
There needs to be intelligent management of Victoria's parks to preserve them for everybody's benefit.
As they say: Healthy parks, healthy people. But how can we value our parks if we do not use them?
Mountain biking on very narrow trails using soft pneumatic tyres does minimal damage.
Mountain biking, of course, provides a most stimulating outdoor activity for people of all ages and abilities.
As a 72-year-old, retired outdoor education teacher who loves to ride in Victoria's parks I have benefited enormously in my mental and physical health.
It is also exciting to see the number of children organised by the club into safe and satisfying races.
The Golden Triangle Epic is the major, motivating local race that encourages hundreds of riders to train and enjoy our wonderful local parks.
As a regular participant in this race and a caring conservationist of our beautiful natural environment, I see the benefits far outweigh any disadvantages to this special event, which of course benefits Bendigo particularly.
Let us hope the race can be restored and our parks enjoyed by all

Firefighters need more support
Earlier this week, the Prime Minister Scott Morrison was sending condolence messages and praising the efforts of the communities and firefighters of our nation battling these horrendous fires that have raged large parts of NSW and Queensland for many weeks with no end in sight.
But less than a week later he has ruled out any assistance for the battling firefighters.
It just shows how shallow his messages of support and his leadership skills are.
Prime Minister, if you have any empathy for these poor unfortunate traumatised people, act responsibly.
Don't try to point-score, pumping your own ego up in parliament.

Pointless vandalism frustrates residents
Last week I read about vandalism of the Christmas display in central Bendigo.
This week while walking along Napier Street in White Hills, I was disgusted with the vandalism of trees which have only recently been planted.
Trees outside Weeroona College and the new estate in Napier Street have once again been snapped off by mindless fools with nothing better to do.

Passengers suffer during rail strike
Bloody unions. The rail workers already have fantastic conditions and secure jobs.
They greedily demand even better conditions, and when negotiations stall they take it out on the poor punters.
No wonder no one trusts the reliability of the public transport system.
