A misjudged corner on lap 15 of the junior sedan race at Alexandra Speedway ended Maverick Racing's Lachlan Fitzpatrick's night.
The crash resulted in Fitzpatrick's car taking heavy suspension damage.
Earlier in the race Fitzpatrick dropped down a couple of positions in the field after he was passed at turn two.
After some work on the car before the race, Fitzpatrick looked to be in full control of the car and performing the best it had all night as he progressed into 12th position.
On the 15th lap, Fitzpatrick's wheels met some loose track surface which caused his car to slide into the wall.
However, the young racer showed promising signs against some of the country's best during the start of the feature and the heat rounds.
He finished sixth in heat one, eighth in the second and seventh in the third.
The team praised the hardwork of the crew, supporters and sponsors.
