This is the level of versatility that the Bendigo Braves' most recent recruit, Javaan Mumtaz, brings to the floor.

"An athletic guard that can fill any position that the team will need," was how Braves coach David Hogan described his latest signing.

"We as coaching staff are very pleased for Javaan to be part of our 2020 NBL1 team. Since Javaan joined us at the start of pre-season he has set a standard of professionalism and work ethic.

"Braves can expect to see plenty of highlights from him in 2020."

Mumtaz, a New Zealand native, comes to the Braves from the Big V Shepparton Gators.

Last season he averaged 17.8 points, five rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.1 steals per game, also with a 41.4 shooting percentage from the field and 40.7 per cent from beyond the arc.

Before that he was in the United States where he played with the University of Eastern New Mexico where he averaged 5.5 points and 1.4 rebounds per game.

Mumtaz embraced the opportunity to play with the Braves as soon as the offer emerged.

"I'm extremely excited for the opportunity to play for such a great organisation," Mumtaz said.

"The Braves are a family orientated club that have made me feel very welcome already. I'm looking forward to meeting the wider community, its members and supporters."

The upcoming 2020 NBL1 season marks Mumtaz's second year playing basketball in Australia, each year his determination and passion for the game continues to grow.

"I pride myself on hardwork and strive to be the best I can be on and off the court," he said.

"I hope to meet the Braves' fan base and bring the championship home."

Mumtaz is the second player announced for the Braves in the 2020 season, with star forward Ray Turner committed to his third season with the squad.

Turner averaged 23.1 points, 12.4 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game this year as he led the Braves to the 2019 NBL1 grand final.

The Braves men's team almost completed a Cinderella story to glory in the championship match, making the grand final after just scraping into the play-off series.

The Braves went down to the Nunawading Spectres 99-90 in a high-quality championship game.

Nunawading's depth and outstanding three-point shooting proved to be the difference between the two teams.

Meanwhile, the Braves women missed out on a spot in the grand final after a narrow three-point loss to the Geelong Supercats, final scores 83-80.

The Kilsyth Cobras went on to win the women's tournament.
