Daytime temperatures are expected to reach the mid to high-30s across the region.
V/Line enforces heat speed restrictions once the temperature reaches 36 degrees.
Chief executive officer James Pinder said this was because the heat caused the steel tracks to expand.
"On really hot days, some services will run at slower speeds or may be replaced by coaches for all or part of the journey and these service changes are reflected in the extreme heat timetables," Mr Pinder said
"We also have extra crews on standby to respond to any incidents as quickly as possible on days of extreme heat."
This means train journeys will generally take longer.
The heat timetables are available online at the V/Line website or at staffed railway stations.
V/Line says maintenance crews have also been resurfacing parts of the network in preparation for hot weather.
No trains will run on the Bendigo, Swan Hill and Echuca lines on Wednesday, December 11 because of industrial action.
