Police have arrested a man after a uniform was stolen from a police officer's home and later worn while the offender tried to swap jewellery for a car.

Police say property and police uniform items were stolen from an officer's home in Dunolly on Friday.
It is believed the offender attended other nearby homes, and tried to swap purportedly stolen jewellery for a vehicle while wearing the police uniform.

The offender was later arrested in Thompson Street after allegedly assaulting a police officer.
A 25-year-old man from Whittington is assisting police with their enquiries.
The investigation is ongoing.
