A gold prospector, who wanted to remain anonymous, found the string stretched at neck-height between trees at the West Bendigo track on October 30.

The man cut the string in half when he found it, so it was not cross the road. He had been in the reserve - the Royal George Company H.A. - gold prospecting.

The man said he cut about six lengths of string, spread along about 20 metres on a downhill stretch of road.

He said the road was regularly used by people on bikes, both cyclists and motorbike riders.

Parks Victoria ranger team leader Matthew Sobey said the organisation have been unable to find the culprit.

"Following a report of twine across a track in Bendigo Regional Park in October, Parks Victoria undertook an investigation," Mr Sobey said.

"The twine was immediately removed and a full search of the area was conducted.

"No additional evidence was found and no further information was received from the public."

Mr Sobey said there have been no other reports of other similar incidents since the incident in October.

There were also no substantiated reports to Parks Victoria prior to the incident, Mr Sobey said.
