The fire danger period will soon come into force in the Central Goldfields and Macedon Ranges shires, bringing in restrictions on open-air fires.

The fire danger period will begin in the two shires on Monday, November 25.
During the fire danger period, fires cannot be lit in the open air without a written permit from the CFA or a municipal fire prevention officer.

The fire danger period has already begun in all other central Victorian municipalities, and will remain in place until May next year.
CFA District 2 operations manager Bill Johnstone said vegetation across the region was dry and warm weather increased the potential for fires.
"Any rainfall we have experienced in spring will have produced growth, which could very easily become a high fuel load throughout the summer season if not properly managed," Mr Johnstone said.
He said there would be a zero-tolerance approach to unauthorised fires lit during the danger period.
"Expect any fire you start to be fully investigated by CFA and Victoria Police," he said.
Hotter temperatures and gusty winds later this week are expected to heighten the fire risk.
On Thursday, the fire danger rating will be severe in the Northern Country district, and very high in the Central and North Central districts.
