It comes to players who dedicate their lives to the sport they love, Australian Rules.
After years of hardwork, this opportunity is now a reality for 16-year-old Tara Slender.
Slender, who plays for the Bendigo Pioneers, has been named on the 2020 NAB AFL Women's Academy level one squad.
"I really want to one day play in the AFLW," Slender said.
"I'm taking any opportunity I receive with both hands and giving it everything I've got."
Slender started playing when she was in Grade 6 at Strathfieldsaye Primary.
"There weren't a lot of girls that wanted to play, but a teacher got a group of us together and we eventually got into state championships.
"Since then I've been in love with football."
Slender has also played cricket, basketball and karate, but football is her main passion.
Slender shines as a centre half-back, but adapts to ruck and mid-field roles.
The AFL Women's Academy bring players from every state and territory together for accelerated Australian Rules and personal development camps throughout 2020.
Bendigo Pioneers talent manager Steve Sharp said Slender deserved the opportunity.
"These types of things don't just come along based on talent, you need to be able to do all of the hardwork too," Sharp said.
"It's a real feather in her cap, a fantastic achievement."
Slender attends strength and condition sessions multiple times per week, in addition to on-field training.
Slender might have put in all of the hardwork, but it wasn't possible to rise to this level without plenty of support along the way.
Richard Falconer from Elders Insurance Bendigo has sponsored Slender from day one which has helped achieve her football goals.
In addition to staff and coaches at the BSE Athlete Development Program, Vic Country, Bendigo Pioneers, Bendigo Kenpo Karate and her family.
