Since 2003, more than three million men across the world have taken part in the annual event, raising funds for men's health, with the first Movember involving just 30 men.

Locally, staff from Bendigo's Brougham Arms Hotel have jumped on board the Movember cause for the second year in a row, with five men currently engaged in a battle to grow the most impressive 'tache.

Publican Scott Macumber said while Movember is actually about a very important cause and a very important message.

"It's just a bit of fun to raise some money, and we invite our customers, friends and local residents to get behind anyone involved in Movember, no matter where they work or what they do and to back the cause.

Movember Foundation country director Rachel Carr said she recognised the critical need for the work the Movember Foundation does, and she was amazed by the progress they have made in prostate and testicular cancer research.

"I am also excited about their work in the mental health and suicide prevention space. Around the world, on average, we lose a man to suicide every minute. Movember is taking action to tackle this crisis."

Funds raised during Movember are also used to fight testicular and prostate cancer among Australian men.

Last year, the Macumber brothers and their Brougham Arms hotel staff raised $1530 during Movember, and there are hopes they will crack the $2000 barrier this year.

This year's crew includes brothers Scott and Luke Macumber, Zacc Alexander, Matt Towers and David Tineo.

"Every little bit helps, and every donation is sincerely appreciated," Scott Macumber said.
