More than 150 people petitioned the council against its plans for 49 Napier Street, which is set to go under the hammer at a November 16 auction.

"The petitioners, with all respect, remind councillors of the present lack of space, plus the railway station/ environ plans which will increase the traffic flow in the shopping area, necessitating extra parking space and improved access for safety reasons," petitioners wrote.

"It is requested that the carpark extension as foreseen by the former Borough of Eaglehawk take place... that entry to the carpark be in Victoria Street and exit be into Napier Street."

City staff noted that the 'requisite formal public consultation process was completed' before the council decided to proceed with a sale by auction.

"The petitioners were advised accordingly of this process prior to the conduct of the auction," the council agenda said.

The Eaglehawk petition is one of a number of come before the Greater Bendigo council at its November meeting, next week.

More than 100 people have urged the council not to close a play space in Epsom.

The signatories disagreed with the City of Greater Bendigo's assessment that the Melbury Court Play Space had reached 'the end of its useful life'.

A separate petition, signed by 278 people, was also received against the establishment of a coffee van in Elmore.

The application has since been deemed unsuccessful.

The City of Greater Bendigo told the Bendigo Advertiser it would review its procedures after granting a private contractor permission to put in underground water and power on the site without the approval of the land's registered proprietor.

Residents had raised concerns about the process.
