"Netball operations manager is about the only thing left,'' Scholtes said with a chuckle this week.
The four-time premiership player has taken over from Andrew Fremantle as the Demons senior coach.
"I went to Calivil as an 18-year-old in 2004 and I've loved the club since then,'' Scholtes said.
"It's a great club, they look after you, it has a real family feel and it's a community club."
Scholtes spent two seasons playing with South Bendigo in the BFNL in 2012-13 before returning to the Demons.
"When I came back to the club from South Bendigo I was assistant coach for a couple of years,'' he said.
"I had every intention to get involved in coaching, but I went with a committee role and once you get into those positions it's hard to walk away from them.
"Now is a good time for me to coach before my son gets old enough to start playing footy and I need to have time away from the club.
"I've done a fair bit of coaching at junior levels and in the under-18s and I'm looking forward to the challenge of coaching a senior team."
The Demons had a 7-9 record in 2019 and played in the elimination final.
They've lost a few seniors players to North Central Football League club Boort, but Scholtes has recruited 10 young players to Calivil.
"There's a whole bunch of mates that are going to university here in Bendigo and they were keen to come out and play footy together,'' Scholtes said.
"Like most clubs we've struggled for depth, so if we can get a group of players like that into the club it's going to help us out in that area.
"They're all young, so it's hard to know how far they'll go, but we've got our fingers crossed that they'll develop into good senior players."
Scholtes said star duo Jake Hall and Michael Cooke have indicated that they'd like to return to Calivil.
"We're trying to recruit like everyone else,'' Scholtes said.
"The exits don't help, but we're staying positive and there's plenty of time between now and the start of the season."
Scholtes put some of his new faces through the club's first pre-season training session on Monday night.
"I thought we'd get in early because a few of the uni boys disappear over the Christmas break,'' Scholtes said.
"It will be good to get the younger boys going early."
