At least three people have died and 150 homes have been destroyed on the north coast of NSW in the past three days.

Two County Fire Authority strike teams from central Victoria - consisting of a total of 10 tankers - will be on the ground from Monday, ahead of an expected catastrophic day in NSW on Tuesday.

"The CFA has been able to release crews from Victoria due to weather conditions from Tuesday through to Friday being quite mild here," CFA Duty Commander Hugh Kelly.

"The NSW is facing extreme or catastrophic conditions tomorrow so the Victorian crews will be able to provide support to the crews who have been battling the fires for the past four to six weeks."

Local Commander Bryan Suckling will be leading six of the 11 strike teams going to NSW from Victoria.

"Bryan has got a huge amount of experience in grass fires and bushfires," Commander Kelly said. "He's the right person to lead the job."

The crews were based in Wagga Wagga on Sunday night and would be assisting NSW crews from Monday.

Depending on the outcome of Tuesday, Victorian firefighters will be returning home on Thursday.
