A rare sight was captured in the skies over Charlton on Wednesday night.
Resident Amy Duckworth said she had just returned home from work about 8.15pm when she saw what looked to be a meteor.
"I saw a weird thing in the sky," she said. "I thought it was a plane with some excess fuel leaking out the back.
"Then I realised it had an orange light. It kept getting lighter and lighter, and then it just disappeared into thin area.
"I thought it was a plane because we have a little airfield in Charlton and I thought it was just someone going for a flight."
Ms Duckworth said the sighting was a rarity.
"I thought it was really weird," she said. "I told my partner that I saw it but by the time he came out, it was gone.
"We don't know if it landed anywhere. No one else seems to have seen it."
Ms Duckworth said she had done some stargazing in the past, but Wednesday night's meteor was something she would never forget.
"I'm still tripping out," she said. "It was just really cool."
