The Spirit led by one point late in the third quarter before the home side's class and depth took over in the final quarter.
The Flyers outscored the Spirit 30-19 in the final term. To rub salt into the wounds it was former Spirit forward Sara Blicavs who did the damage.
After being well held for three quarters, Blicavs scored 16 points in the final term and finished with 21 for the game. Rebecca Cole scored a game-high 23 points for the Flyers.
The Spirit, who struggled from behind the three-point arc, were best-served by Becca Tobin (16), Kelly Wilson (15) and Abbey Wehrung (13).
The Spirit (2-4) travel to Adelaide next Saturday for another clash with the Lightning.
