More than 100 people from organisations, local councils and businesses discussed the region's energy position at the Loddon Mallee Future Energy Forum in Bendigo on Thursday.
Central Victorian Greenhouse Alliance executive officer Rob Law said the forum showed the region could become a renewable energy powerhouse.
"(The forum) has been really great, it's been a good showcase of what the region could become. There's a lot of opportunities for large scale solar (developments) but also at a household and community level too," he said.
"There's a big revolution underway with the uptake of solar and electric vehicles (in central Victoria).
"Whats interesting in our region is that in the last five years, we have gone from less than five per cent to almost 45 per cent renewable energy.
"(That has) been amazing for the roll out of large scale solar but also at a household level - we're definitely at the forefront of (renewable energy) in our state."
Mr Law believed about 25 per cent of households in central Victoria had solar panels installed.
"There are larger percentages toward Castlemaine and Woodend," he said. "There's a lot of incentives and it is a bit of a no brainer for people to go solar now.
"I think we have seen huge change in the last two years. There's so much momentum now and a big shift has been that it makes economical sense to shift to renewable energy now."
At the forum on Thursday, participants discussed what opportunities are in the central Victorian region.
"The main topic in the morning was about how do we unlock the opportunities in our region and do it in a way that everyone can benefit," Mr Law said.
"Someone said it's not a silver bullet, it's a buckshot. I think there's going to be a whole range of solutions to complicated problems. But I think the solutions are here and now, we just have to get on top of it and get them done.
"Egos have to be pushed aside. Definitely every single person has a role to play whether you're a household, a business or a large-scale developer. But there's also a way for everyone to benefit as well."
On Wednesday, the state government passed legislation committing to a new Renewable Energy Target of 50 per cent by 2030. Mr Law welcomed the news.
"It's really great leadership from the Victorian Government to have a strong signal to the industry and everyone else who can play a role in how we get to those levels of renewable energy in a short period of time," he said.
