AUSTRALIA'S biggest junior volleyball tournament will have a new home for the next three years, with Bendigo selected to host the Australian Junior Volleyball Championships (AJVC) from 2020.
It marks a return to Bendigo Stadium of major tournament volleyball for the first time since 2016.
The last time a major tournament was staged in Bendigo was the Women's Grand Prix event, featuring the Australian Volleyroos, Colombia, Croatia and Cuba.
This year's AJVC was held in Canberra and the event attracted 75 teams across a range of age groups.
Bendigo is planning to have an equally successful event in 2020, with preparations already well underway.
Volleyball Australia chief executive officer Andrew Dee is looking forward to the new location.
"It's exciting to bring our national under-age championships to Bendigo and have a thousand talented volleyballers playing under one roof," he said.
"Bendigo's AJVC thus far is planned to include teams in four age groups - under 14s, under 15s, under 17s, and under 18s - with negotiations taking place between Volleyball Australia and School Sport Australia to include the under 16s in the AJVC.
The first of three tournaments will be staged next year from Sunday, September 27 to Saturday, October 3.
