Bendigo Agricultural Show Society executive officer Ian Furze said a lot more families had been coming through the gates, with the $7 after 7pm offer particularly successful.
"The rain's held off and the sun's been shining and it looks like we've had a really good day compared to last year," Mr Furze said.
"Just by the feel of things there's been a lot of attraction for the motocross guys and the racing pigs."
The day marked 160 years of showing in Bendigo. But it was not the 160th show, due to a wartime break.
Mr Furze said he expected a bumper crowd on Saturday as the weekend began.
