Next year, the firm will celebrate 140 years of business.
Hume & Iser was born out of a partnership by two men from Germany and started life as a sawmill that survived wars, recessions, being repossessed by the bank and even burning down.
Now operating as a Mitre 10, the store has undergone many transformations, and is now managed under the watchful eye of co-founder Henry Iser's great-grandson Stephen Iser.
Today the iconic store is one of the biggest Mitre 10s in the country and would certainly be one of the oldest Bendigo businesses still operated by members of the same family.
