Crone, who represents Carlton in Victorian Premier Cricket, has been named in a squad of 13 for the match in Perth.
The former Strathfieldsaye cricketer's chances have been enhanced by the selectors' decision to rest frontline pacemen James Pattinson, Peter Siddle, Scott Boland and Chris Tremain after heavy workloads in the Sheffield Shield game against Western Australia, which ended on Monday.
Victorian was soundly beaten by the home side by nine wickets.
No certainty to play, Australian Twenty20 captain Aaron Finch has been named in the squad of 13, despite missing the Shield game with a side injury.
Crone, a full Victorian team contract holder since 2017-18, took 1-36 off 10 overs in his latest Premier league match for Carlton against Monash Tigers at Princes Park on Saturday.
It followed a haul of 2-29 off nine overs and and 17 not out (off 19 balls) in a win the previous weekend against Melbourne University.
Also named alongside Crone in the squad are fellow young quick Will Sutherland, Jackson Coleman and Andrew Fekete.
Crone has entered the 2019-20 season on a high after winning a Victorian Premier Cricket premiership last season with Carlton, alongside fellow former Bendigonian Brayden Stepien.
The pair were also part of the Blues team, which won the inaugural National Premier T20 Championships in Adelaide in March.
Victorian squad: Peter Handscomb (captain), Jackson Coleman, Xavier Crone, Andrew Fekete, Aaron Finch, Sam Harper, Marcus Harris, Jon Holland, Nic Maddinson, Glenn Maxwell, Will Pucovski, Matthew Short, Will Sutherland.
The match will start at 5pm AEDT and be live streamed on cricket.com.au.
