BENDIGO'S Dean Goodridge says he is honoured to be this year's recipient of the AFL Victoria Greg Sidebottom Memorial Umpire Coach of the Year Award.
Goodridge received the accolade at AFL Victoria's Community Football Awards in Melbourne on Friday night.
"Greg (Sidebottom) has been a bit of an icon in the umpiring world, particularly around Shepparton, and I knew him fairly well, so it's a great honour to receive an award in his name," Goodridge said at the weekend.
The award recognised Goodridge's work in "overseeing umpire coaching across a region spanning over 300km in length".
Goodridge, who umpired his 1000th game back in 2016, has spent the past eight years as the Bendigo Umpires Association coach.
Before that he had a 10-year stint coaching the North Central umpires.
"I'm still really enjoying both the umpiring and coaching, and it was particularly good earlier this year to see John Howorth, who I previously coached, do his first senior AFL game," Goodridge said.
