SANDHURST has its first win of the BDCA season on the board after surviving a gallant last-wicket partnership by Bendigo United's Tom Batters and Billy Quirk on Saturday.
Chasing the Dragons' 206 at Weeroona Oval, the Redbacks looked to have the task well and truly ahead of them when No.11 Quirk joined Batters at the crease with the score 9-168 in the 79th over and 39 runs needed.
However, Quirk and Batters diligently stuck at their task and edged the Redbacks closer until the equation was left at eight runs to get off the final over of the innings to be bowled by Sandhurst skipper Taylor Beard.
Batters faced all six balls in the final over, the first two of which were dots.
Batters then scored twos on balls three, four and five leaving three needed to win, or two to tie, off the final delivery.

Batters swung and missed at the last delivery, but Quirk scampered through for a single leaving the Redbacks an agonising one run short as they closed at 9-205.
While the Dragons escaped with the victory, they should have given themselves more breathing room given they were bowled out with six overs left unused on day one.
Batters finished 27 n.o. and Quirk unbeaten on 12.
The Dragons had the clamps on the Redbacks early in the innings.
The Redbacks - who faced three overs late last week - didn't score their first run until the eighth over and had just 40 on the board after 30.
Coming off his 86 with the bat last week, Beard gave the Redbacks' batsmen little opportunity to score. He conceded just one run off his first seven overs and only five off his first 10 before finishing with 2-45 off 21, including nine maidens.
Fellow opener Matt Combe also applied the brakes to Bendigo United, with his first 20 overs going for just 27 runs before he ended with 3-44 off 24.
As well as Beard's economical bowling, he was also involved in one of the key plays of the day with a direct hit run out from mid-off of Bendigo United captain Miggy Podosky.
Podosky had looked in fine touch and had the scoreboard ticking over for the Redbacks, working his way to 40 with four boundaries and two sixes before taking on the arm of Beard and coming off second best, with his dismissal leaving Bendigo United 7-139.
Just as he did in round one, Jake Klemm top-scored for the Redbacks with 43.
The gripping result leaves the Redbacks and Dragons both with 1-1 records.
STRATHFIELDSAYE V HUNTLY-NORTH EPSOM
For the second time to start the season Huntly-North Epsom's bowlers have led the Power to victory after the reigning premiers again convincingly dismantled Strathfieldsaye.
What was seemingly a modest 161 on the board for Huntly-North Epsom easily proved enough as the Jets were routed for just 69 at Tannery Lane.
The Jets have now lost 20 wickets for only 107 runs in their past two games against Huntly-North Epsom having been skittled for just 38 in their previous meeting last season.
The star with the ball for the Power was recruit Lewis Stabler, who proved what a valuable acquisition he will be to the defending champions with 5-17 off 17.2 overs, including 10 maidens.
"He bowled well today, and probably without a bit of luck too... he shaved the pegs a couple of times and he had a fair few plays and misses," Power captain Elliott Massina said.
"He put the ball in good spots and also bowled really well with the old ball as well; he got it to go Irish late in the day and was able to hit the stumps a couple of times.
"Across the board the boys bowled really well, but we know we've got to start standing up with the bat."
The Power have successfully defended scores of 161 and 123 in their opening two games, during which they have taken 20 wickets for 141 runs after also knocking over Sandhurst for 72 in round one.
While the Jets - who started the day 2-17 - could muster just 69, they did spend almost 58 overs at the crease in what was an innings where only Callum McCarty (18) and Chathura Damith (10) reached double figures.
WHITE HILLS v KANGAROO FLAT

White Hills produced a score that would usually win more games than it loses - yet was beaten by 95 runs against Kangaroo Flat at Scott Street.
Set a daunting task of chasing the Roos' 6-386, the Demons answered with 291 and still had more than 10 overs left up their sleeve when they were bowled out.
The challenge confronting the Demons was made all the more difficult when Gavin Bowles (2), who opened, was bowled by Dylan Klemm in the fifth over with the score on six.
The Demons' innings later stalled with three quick wickets that took the score from 2-123 to 5-133 in the 32nd over.
Among those wickets to fall was skipper Mitch Winter-Irving (66), who had looked in superb touch at No.3, with his innings including a pair of sixes off Chris Barber that took him to 50.
But Barber later had the last laugh when he bowled Winter-Irving.
From 5-133, the Demons' last five wickets combined to add a further 158 led by recruit Hamish Richards (48), Justin Slattery (40), another recruit in Dylan Bailie (28) and Linc Jacobs (18).
Klemm (3-31) and Adam Burns (3-49) took three wickets each for the Roos, while after scoring a ton with the bat last week (109), leg-spinner Barber also brought up three figures with the ball with 2-115 off 22 overs.
BENDIGO v GOLDEN SQUARE
The concentration levels of Bendigo captain Shane Koop and the high price he puts on his wicket were on display at Atkins Street as the Goers defeated Golden Square by 13 runs to win their first game of the season.
Koop spent 286 minutes at the crease and faced 235 balls in finishing 65 n.o. as the Goers answered Square's 192 with 5-205.
As well as Koop's 65, Kyle Humphrys (51) also made a half-century for the Goers, while a quickfire 34 off 30 from Alex Pearson late that included three sixes helped to finish the job for Bendigo.
Scott Trollope (3-38) and veteran Scott Johnson (2-31) took the five wickets for Golden Square, which had the screws on Bendigo having conceded just 64 runs at the 50-over mark.
