Co-director Jess Grant said family and other commitments led to her and fellow director Rob Jones deciding to make this year's event the final Kyneton Music Festival.
"We're a bit sad to make the decision," Grant said. "We have been thinking about doing this for the last year and have come to a point where we had to call it.
"It's sad for the town but it has to happen. The two of us run it full time over the year but we have other commitments and families.
"The festival has grown to what it could grow to and we want to go on a high rather than keeping it going for the sake of keeping going.
"The send off plan is make this the best festival we can, make it a big party and put on a good show with good local acts."
Kyneton Music Festival is the second major event to finish up in the town this year after the Lost Trades Fair announced it will move to Bendigo in 2020.
"It is definitely something we took on board and thought about," Grant said.
"We love Kyneton and putting on a show there and would love to keep doing it but were tired and old now.
"The town has given us so much and we have loved giving back. We always wanted to give something to the town and it is important to be involved in the community, that kept us going."
The festival was founded in 2011 and has been a platform for many local bands.
Local artists Stonefield, The Putbacks, Matthew Colin, Oscar Lush, Georgia Spain, Bruiser, and King Maxwell will feature at this year's festival.
This year's Kyneton Music Festival is on October 25 and 26.
