Part of the state government audit will let the public have its say on how food in health facilities can be healthier, tastier and more diverse for patients and aged-care residents.
Revised nutritional guidelines and standards will be introduced as a result of the audit.
Parliamentary Secretary Anthony Carbines, who is leading the audit, said it was a chance to lift the bar and provide even better meals.
"Our hospitals and aged care facilities already do a great job feeding their patients and residents," he said.
"Now we're working together to lift the bar and provide even better meals than ever before."
Spotless, the company that provide cleaning and food services to Bendigo Health, also provide food to four central Victorian aged care facilities.
"On average, each month Spotless provides around 44,000 meals to Bendigo Health and four aged care facilities in the area," a spokesperson said. "The menus for the meals are prepared in conjunction with Bendigo Health and state teams and approved by them."

The audit was announced in August with Minister for Health Jenny Mikakos saying the commitment of conduct a food audit was part of an election promise.
"We're taking action to make sure patients are being served up a wider variety of yummy nutritious foods that they know and love," she said.
The audit will also consider how public hospitals and aged care facility menus cater to the diverse needs and nutritional value of food and rink in modern diets, assess the taste and variety of meals and look at ways to source food from Victorian farmers and producers.
It will also aim to reduce high fat and high salt foods at hospital-run cafes and vending machines.
"This is a great chance for hospital patients and aged care centre residents to tell us what matters to them when it comes to food and nutrition," Minister for Disability, Ageing and Carers Luke Donnellan said.
