AXE Creek's return to division one of the Emu Valley Cricket Association has hit its first speed hump with a disastrous day against reigning premier Sedgwick on Saturday.
Not only were the Cowboys all out for just 41, but they then had to spend the rest of the afternoon at Club Court chasing leather as the Rams smashed 7-277 to close day one with a lead of 236.
The day started well enough for the Cowboys with captain Ash Dixon winning the toss and batting.
The rest of the day though was carnage for the Cowboys, who were bowled out in the 26th over for a paltry 41 as the Rams' Jordan Ilsley wreaked heavoc.
Ilsley finished with 7-7 of 7.4 overs, with five of his wickets unassisted - four bowled and one lbw.
Opener Dixon (14) was the only player to score in double figures for the Cowboys, who lost their wickets with the score at 2, 10, 26, 26, 28, 31, 35, 38, 41 and 41.
In reply Rams' openers Greg Thomas (78) and Alan Friswell (53) both made half-centuries for the second game in a row and put on 93 for the first wicket that set Sedgwick on the path to 7-277 and in prime position for an early boost of outright points next week.
Dean Comensoli (3-81) and Connor Bulger (3-67) both have three wickets for the Cowboys, who are back in division one for the first time since 2015-16.
* Star batsman Rhys Webb smashed his fourth career score of more than 150 for Spring Gully as the Crows amassed 308 against California Gully at home.
Batting at No.3, reigning EVCA Player of the Year Webb crunched 11 fours and seven sixes in his 151.
Overall, it was Webb's seventh century from 39 innings for the Crows since joining the club in 2016-17.
As well as Saturday, Webb's seven tons also include knocks of 180 against West Bendigo (2018-19), 168 against Sedgwick (2016-17) and 165 against Mandurang (2018-19) that are above 150.
Webb and Lachlan Brook (78) put on 169 for the third wicket after the Crows had been 2-22 early.
While the Cobras have plenty to chase next week, it could have been much more had they not taken the Crows' last five wickets for just 15 runs and bowled Spring Gully out in the 72nd over.
Brad Webster's 3-78 for the Cobras included the dismissal of Webb, who he bowled.
* West Bendigo is in the box seat to defeat Emu Creek on the back of a century from Connor Robertson.
Robertson's 139 featuring 22 boundaries helped the Redbacks to an impressive 6-365 at JG Edwards Oval.
Robertson, who made 52 in round one, started his innings with the Redbacks 1-26 and didn't depart until he was the sixth wicket to fall with the score at 328.
He and captain Travis O'Connell (81) shared in a 139-run stand for the second wicket starting at 1-26.
Simon Marwood (2-83) was the Emus' only multiple wicket-taker.
* Mandurang already has first innings points in the bag against Marong.
After bowling the Panthers out for just 86 the Rangas went to stumps at 1-116 with a 30-run lead and Linton Colclough unbeaten on 63.
James Pietromonaco (3-20), Corey Dickins (3-24) and James Bailey (3-23) all took three wickets for the Rangas after the Panthers won the toss and batted.
Openers Scott Ross (22) and Duane Anderson (9) got the score to 30 without loss for the Panthers before the wheels quickly fell off.
* Maiden Gully has 9-262 to defend against United.
Nine of the 10 batsmen used by the Lions reached double figures led by Leigh Draper (49), who continued his solid start to the season, while Rob Brown (33) and Shane Rabbitt (24 n.o.) put on 58 for the ninth wicket.
Joe Hartney (4-74) was the best with the ball for the Tigers.
