The Kangaroo Flat man has been taken to Bendigo Hospital in a stable condition.
Police say the man's car was travelling south on the Calder Alternative Highway when it left the road for an unknown reason and crashed into a tree.
The occupant was mechanically trapped in the vehicle for a short period of time.
Emergency services were called to the scene just after 4.30pm.
Police are investigating the incident. They have asked anyone with information or dashcam footage to contact the Bendigo Police Station on 5448 1300.
