HISTORY WEEK
Celebrate history with the Bendigo Historical Society, as it hosts various events for History Week 2019.
History Week runs between October 13 and October 20.
There will be many activities to keep everyone busy and interested.
This week there will be two feature events as follows:

- Learn more with a talk by Terry Davidson about Joseph Anderson Panton, Warden, Magistrate and Commissioner, on the goldfields in the early days of Bendigo. Cost $5

Studying Local History in a Global Perspective

EVENING DANCE
Enjoy an evening of dance with the Spring Gully Hall Committee.
This event features music by Max Farrar, a good program and a home-cooked supper.
There will also be a raffle and prizes.

GLIDING CLUB OPEN DAY
If you have ever thought about flying above Bendigo, then this open day is for you.
View the facilities and meet the experienced members of the Bendigo Gliding Club.
This open day allows you to look at the different gliders, aircrafts and equipment that are used to run the operations.

URBAN CYCLING
Are you wanting to be more confident on your bike? Perhaps you want to ride in town, but are unsure about safety.
This workshop will help you improve your skills in a fun way with qualified instructors.
This workshop is suitable for adults and children aged 10-17 (must participate with an adult).

PIZZA AND MUSIC NIGHT
Enjoy an evening with your family at this pizza and bush dance fun event.
There will be the favourite pizzas for dinner, along with live music and a bush dance for all to enjoy.

LIGHT THE NIGHT
The Bendigo Canoe Club and Light the Night are hosting a fundraising event this week.
The event will include entertainment, various foods and children's activities.
There will also be a paddle in support of Light the Night and a sunset walk.
Light the Night is an event that raises money and support for The Leukaemia Foundation, by lighting lanterns for those who have died and those affected by the cancer.
All money raised from the event goes towards the Leukaemia Foundation.
Cost $25 to paddle and $5 for an LED light.

BEEKEEPING FIELD DAY
The 40th annual Beekeeping Field Day is on again, promoting beekeeping skills and the beekeeping industry.
Hosted by the Bendigo Branch Victorian Apiarists' Association Inc. (V.A.A.), the field day is designed for both novice and experienced beekeepers.
There will be various trade stalls, a large range of equipment, guest speakers, demonstrations, catering and much more.
Honey will also be available for purchase.
Adults $10, Concession $7, children free of charge.

LET'S WALK
Victoria Walks will host weekly walks for people living in Kangaroo Flat for the month of October.
In partnership with City of Greater Bendigo and Healthy Heart Victoria, this event not only gets you out and about, but also helps increase fitness.
Walks will take about 30 to 40 minutes.

October is Mental Health Month and the community of Murrabit will be showing their support by hosting a Wellbeing Walk.
At this event, you're welcome to dress in bright colours and join in on a walk around Murrabit.
Following the event is a morning tea.
Donations can also be given on the day to the Gannawarra Giving Account, which supports local farming families in and around the area.
This is a free event.

GREAT STRIDES
Support those with Cystic Fibrosis at Great Strides Bendigo.
Great Strides is a fun run and walk that raises awareness and monies for those living with CF.
You can either run or walk 3km or 6km around a local lake.

GOLDFIELDS RALLY
The Maryborough District Historic Vehicle Club is proudly hosting its 11th rally.

SHOVELFEST
The Bendigo Shovelfest is back for another year of fun and motorcycles.
Enthusiasts from across the country will attend the event, with people viewing motorbikes of all makes and models.
Shovelheads and Ironheads will also be judged.
There will be live music, foods, a Harley swap meet and much more.

ST PAUL'S ART PRIZE
Now in its 26th year, the annual St Paul's Art Prize and following exhibition takes place for 2019.

Judge Dr Kylie Banyard of La Trobe University will announce the winners.

YOUNG PERON'S CONCERTO
The Bendigo Symphony Orchestra is celebrating the young musical talent of Bendigo in its final performance for 2019.
The Young Person's Concerto will feature local performers Lily Begg, Anika Weibgen, Alicia Parry, Archie Bate, Noah Lawrence, and Blaze Houlden.
The concert will feature a range of works, including Grieg, Haydn, Boccherini, Vaughan-Williams and many more.

ENCOUNTER
Contemporary dance, circus and live music will take over the Poppet Head for this free community event.
The event will feature more than 100 performers, with about 70 local dancers performing on the stairs.

HOMAGE TO STYLE
This exhibition showcases timeless style, showcased through a collection of fashion photographs and garments.

BALENCIAGA: SHAPING FASHION
World-class couture has come back to town, with the Bendigo Art Gallery opening their newest exhibition, Balenciaga: Shaping Fashion this weekend.
This exhibition showcases the growth and works of designer Cristobel Balenciaga and his legacy of the modern designers he influenced.
The exhibition will feature contemporary designs by the house of Balenciaga, with video footage that shows historic garments morphing into modern interpretations.

INTERWOVEN
This exhibition is a cultural weaving collaboration, including a workspace and exhibition in one.
Interwoven brings together people from diverse backgrounds, through the process of weaving.
Community members, artists and weaves of all ages are able to participate by registering for a workshop, dropping into the building, weaving together and enjoying the community atmosphere.

DESERT LINES
Desert Lines: Batik from Central Australia brings together about 60 selected works from the collection of the National Gallery of Victoria.
The works show the unique and distinct batik styles (a method of wax resist fabric printing) of five central desert communities: Ernabella (Pukatja), Fregon (Kaltjiti), Utopia, Yuendumu and Kintore (Walungurru).
This exhibition will showcase the batik work for women of the desert and it's importance. It will also show interconnected through ceremony, travel and much more.

ART AND DESIGN
Take a look at what the next generation of artists have to offer at the VCE Art and Design exhibition.
This event will showcase the works of graduating secondary college students, celebrating their achievements through art.

There will also be various children's activities, face painting and a jumping castle.

ARTISANS TRAIL
Hosted by Mandurang Valley Artisans Trail, this event features up to six locations with a unique story and the artists behind the locations.
Locations featured include the Spring Gully General Store, art and food; Raw Boards, timber products and artists; Marilyn's Wildflowers, an open garden; and many, many more.
