Maryborough and Castlemaine have been taken out of the damaging wind warning area by the Bureau of Meteorology.
However, strong wind is still expected across parts of the state in elevated areas.
Saturday, 6pm
PEOPLE need to take extreme care when burning off on Sunday as the weather warms and windy conditions loom across parts of the state, firefighters have warned.
Residents need to register their burn-offs and check the local conditions on the day, CFA Chief Officer Steve Warrington says.
"We encourage residents to take advantage of the window of opportunity to clean up their properties before the bushfire season, but we're also reminding people to always register their burn-offs so we know what is happening in the area, especially if brigades are being called to fires.
"It reduces the chances of CFA brigades being called out unnecessarily if a member of the public calls about smoke or a fire in the area."
Even when burns are registered, people need to monitor conditions because fires can get out of control within minutes, especially in hot and windy conditions, Mr Warrington said.
People should never leave a burn-off unattended, he said. It's the resident's responsibility to ensure that it does not get out of control.

MARYBOROUGH and Castlemaine are among areas that could be hit by damaging winds on Sunday.
The low pressure system is expected to form over southwest Victoria early Sunday and affect eastern parts of the state by early afternoon, the Bureau of Meteorology predicts.

Damaging winds averaging 50 to 70 km/h, with peak gusts of 90 to 100 km/h, are expected to develop over elevated parts (above 800 metres) of the warning area during Sunday morning.
Winds are expected to ease in the west around the middle of the day and over eastern areas later.
Locations which may be affected include Falls Creek.
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
- Move vehicles under cover or away from trees
- Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony
- Keep clear of fallen power lines
Bendigo is expecting a partly cloudy day with a chance of a shower and a top of 23 degrees.
Castlemaine is expecting 23 degrees, Maryborough 23 and Echuca 28.
