Jack Haig at the UCI Road World Championships
Bendigo's Jack Haig put on a valiant effort at the 2019 UCI Road World Championships men's road race in Yorkshire.
Haig did not finish the race after he lost contact with the main group on the penultimate lap.
The riders battled "atrocious conditions" during the 261.8km road race.
"It was horrendous, not too many words can describe that day," said Australian Michael Matthews, who finished 24th.
Lucas Herbert at the Alfed Dunhill Links Championship
A forgettable hole at Carnoustie put an end to Lucas Herbert's chance of a strong finish on the weekend on the European Tour.
Herbert was playing in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, when in the third round carded a 10 on the par-five sixth hole at Carnoustie.
He had shown fine form in the earlier rounds of the championship, day one at Kingsbarns with a three-under par 69 and a four-under par 68 on day two at the St Andrews Old Course.
After the third round at Carnoustie, Herbert missed the cut and finished T94.
France's Victor Perez went on to win the tournament with a final score of 22-under par.
Herbert now sits 112th on the Race to Dubai rankings, with the top 110 players at the end of the season earning European Tour cards for 2020.
Herbert is currently entered to play in the Italian Open to be held at Rome's Olgiata Golf Club from October 10-13.
