A WOMAN has been airlifted to Melbourne after a single-car crash west of Bendigo.

Police said the vehicle the woman was driving hit a tree after she swerved to avoid hitting a kangaroo.
The crash happened at Carapooee, south of St Arnaud, about 8.40am today.
Emergency services were called to Stuart Mill Low Road near the intersection with Murray Road.

Police said the St Arnaud woman, 71, had to be cut out of the vehicle.
She was the car's sole occupant.
Police said the woman sustained non-life threatening leg injuries.
She was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital, where she remains in a stable condition.
