DETECTIVES have charged a Hawthorn East man following a fatal collision in Malmsbury yesterday afternoon.

Investigators were called to the two-car collision on Mollison Street around 2.35pm.
The driver of the second car, a 74-year-old Kyneton woman, was taken to hospital but has died.

The driver of the other vehicle, the 30-year-old Hawthorn East man was, was interviewed and charged with culpable driving.
He has been bailed to appear at Kyneton Magistrates' Court on 10 September.
Police have declined to answer any more questions about the crash as it is now a matter for the courts.

AN AIR ambulance is preparing to fly a woman believed aged in her 70s to Melbourne.
The woman is in a critical condition.
It remains unclear whether the woman has had a medical incident as a result of an incident originally reported to emergency services as a collision.
An air ambulance has landed at the scene and is expected to soon lift the woman.
Paramedics have assessed another person at the scene. That person has not required medical attention.

EMERGENCY crews are at the scene of a reported car crash in Malmsbury, where one person is unconscious.
Emergency services are managing traffic in the area after being called to what they originally thought would be a road rescue.
Paramedics are treating one woman at the scene. She is understood to not be in a car.
The incident is taking place close to the Malmsbury Youth Justice Centre on Mollison Street.
Four CFA vehicles have been assigned to the incident.
