Winds averaging between 60 to 70 kilometres per hour are expected late Friday night and into Saturday morning.
The bureau has warned peak gusts could reach 90 kilometres per hour.
The region including Kyneton, Daylesford, and Ballarat is expected to be affected.
The State Emergency Service has advised people to move vehicles under cover and away from trees, secure or put away loose items, and keep clear of fallen power lines.
The next severe weather warning will be issued by 5pm on Friday.
