NATTE Bealiba hit Carisbrook with four quarters of intense pressure in Saturday's Maryborough-Castlemaine District league grand final and was rewarded with a stunning upset.

A year after copping a 72-point grand final hiding off the Redbacks, the Swans gained the sweetest of revenge at Princes Park.

In the league's first grand final since 1988 decided by a kick, the Swans clinched their first premiership since 2011 with a dramatic 12.11 (83) to 12.7 (79) win.

The Redbacks - chasing a third-straight premiership - had gone into the grand final with their sole loss having been to Natte Bealiba by 14 points mid-season.

But so dominant had the Redbacks been this season, their percentage heading into the grand final was an enormous 404.2.

However, the Swans thrived on their underdog status and in what was a pulsating contest that went right down to the wire, the match-winning goal was kicked by Natte Bealiba's William Collicoat.

Collicoat's brilliant goal from deep in the pocket gave the Swans a five-point advantage at the 18-minute mark of the final term.

There were anxious moments late for the Swans though when Carisbrook's Harry Butler and Nick Wright both had late chances to steal back the lead, but they were off target.

Butler's missed shot at goal came after the Swans were penalised for a deliberate out of bounds.

With the Swans' lead cut back to three points, they were able to clear their defence and add another behind through Mitch Olafsen, before the siren sounded soon after.

"It was an amazing effort by the boys and it just means so much for the community," said Swans co-coach Zeb Broadbent, who was sidelined with a torn ACL.

"The following the club has is just huge and it's great to see just how happy those who have been around the club for a long time are."

The Swans had the pressure on Carisbrook when they led by 16 points during the second term, but by half-time the Redbacks were back within four points.

And that four-point lead the Swans - also co-coached by Marc Lindsay - held at the main break would also end up their winning margin after both sides added 4.6 in the second half.

The two best-on-ground medals were won by the Swans' duo of on-baller Josh Grant and young gun Jye Mortlock.

Collicoat finished with three goals for the Swans, while Olafsen - one of which was a soccered kick off the ground in front of the scoreboard - and Trent Mortlock kicked two apiece.

Gun big man Jackson Bowen kicked three goals and was the Redbacks' best, while Liam Cunningham also slotted three - the last of which put Carisbrook up by one point 17 minutes into the final term.

Carisbrook's century goalkicker Ashley Munari was held to just one goal by the Swans' Keegan Ross.

Meanwhile, in the A Grade netball battle, Avoca beat Carisbrook 46-38. Avoca defender Jess Hollett, also this year's league medallist, was best on court.
