The Year 11 student will be joining five students from Bendigo Senior Secondary College in the prestigious event, where those interested in science, maths and technology can meet like-minded students and industry professionals.
"I'm very excited," Mr Morrissey said. "I didn't think I was going to get in but I managed to somehow."
The national forum has been running since 1984, with more than 12,000 young Australians given the opportunity to explore a career in science as they begin their final year of high school.
Students are chosen after a rigorous application and interview process.
Mr Morrissey, who has a keen interest in biology, said he hoped to learn more about the different opportunities available in STEM.
"I want to explore all of the sciences because there is so many," he said.
"One of my friends went last year and they were set on a topic. Then they completely changed topics after going because they saw there were so many."
Mr Morrissey is the only Girton student to be heading to the forum next year. Girton Grammar headmaster Matthew Maruff said the school was proud of his achievement.
"We encourage our students to take every opportunity to follow their passions and Xavier has done just this," he said.
"He took it upon himself to be part of the selection process for this event and has been rewarded for his effort and his skill. I am sure that Xavier will be a leading light in the future of Australian science."
The six Rotary Clubs of Bendigo have sponsored Mr Morrissey and the five students from BSSC to attend the forum. The Rotary Clubs have been sponsoring students from the district for years.
"I'm very thankful for that because it's a lot of money," Mr Morrissey said. "It would have been a lot harder to get there if it wasn't for them."
