Contested for the first time in 2019, the Demons triumphed on their home courts against Pyramid Hill 28-16.

Coached by club stalwart Kellie Anset, Calivil United lost just one game on the way to the premiership.

Pyramid Hill made it to the grand final from third spot and had to bounce back from a qualifying final defeat against Maiden Gully YCW to defeat the Eagles in the preliminary final.

Anset praised the premiership win as 'special', with the club pushing to have the competition introduced.

"To be the first premiers is amazing," she said.

"We had a lot of girls available to play - Calivil seems to have no boys, but lots of girls at the moment, so it was great to have an extra competition to give them decent court time.

"Seeing how much they have all developed against some good quality opposition this year has been amazing to watch."

Anset was confident the competition would only get stronger in the years ahead and would hopefully draw more young girls into netball.

"We'll only keep two of them next year, but a new batch will come through," she said.

"They will go up to 15-and-under, which is exciting. And it's great for the club to have the numbers, which makes our future look promising.

"Pyramid Hill is very talented too - they have some great players and have done really well to get into the grand final."

The win for Anset was made even more special with her daughter Imogen claiming the best on court medal.

Sienna Lawry was also pivotal in a 16-6 first-half at goal shooter, before having to switch to wing attack later in the game, under rules which preclude players from spending more than two quarters in the same third of the court.

"It's a great way for the girls to develop their game, by having to switch positions," Anset said.
