The Father's Day fun run supports the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia and the men's clinic at Bendigo Community Health Services.
Bendigo Community Health Services male nurse practitioner Peter Strange said a regular check up was essential.
"A lot of the health issues that can kill men are preventable and treatable when found early but sadly it's often the case that without a regular check up it's too late when these are picked up," Mr Strange said.
"A regular health check has saved so many lives."
Athletics Bendigo spokesperson Keith Macdonald said Run for Dad urged people of all ages to think about men's health.
"We want to see as many men as possible on Sunday spending time with family and friends on a special day such as Father's Day," he said
"This will get them thinking about why a regular health check is so important. They want to appreciate such things for many years to come."
Run for Dad is staged at the Bendigo Racecourse and starts at 10am. It offers a 3.75km walk or a 7km run, with a free breakfast, medals for all participants, and prizes for best dressed superheroes.
