MORE than 300 people can expect power to be switched off in Eaglehawk and California Gully on Wednesday and Thursday as Powercor replaces lines.
The electricity distributor has begun a $1.5 million project swapping 6km of high voltage copper lines with lightweight aluminium replacements.
It is also replacing 30 powerpoles, Bendigo field leader Craig McCarron said.
"Powerlines deteriorate with age and weather exposure, so to ensure we continue delivering reliable power to the community we replace them," he said.
"The new powerlines will be more reliable and they'll be able to meet the future requirements of our customers."
Lanes in Sailors Gully Road will also close on Wednesday and Thursday, with Powercor encouraging people to plan for longer travel times.
More planned outages are expected throughout September, and Powercor intends to contact affected customers prior to power being switched off for works.
More news:
Traffic will be affected by lane changes from Sailors Gully Road to Kirkwood Road on 10 and 12 September.
Works will also impact traffic along Holmes Road on 8 and 15 September and Sandhurst Road on 25 September and 3 October.
Mr McCarron said the power outages allow crews to complete work safely and quickly, keeping disruption to customers to a minimum.
"We never want to take our customers off electricity supply, but by doing this work now we can minimise the risk of extended, unplanned outages in the future," he said.
"While we understand any outage is inconvenient for customers, we will have crews on site working hard to complete this work in the safest and quickest way possible."
