Eaglehawk's 1-0 win over Tatura and Strathdale's 6-0 drubbing of La Trobe University combined with Moama-Echuca's shock 6-0 defeat to Shepparton South left the Hawks and Blues more than one game clear of the rest of the pack.

The Hawks still lead Strathdale by one point, but the Blues have two games in hand. The two teams meet on Saturday, September 7.

Eaglehawk had to get the three points against third-placed Tatura to keep its championship hopes alive and that's what it did.

A Brent Hamblin goal in the third minute of the game was all the Hawks needed to see off a Tatura side that is arguably the most improved team in the competition.

Tatura is stuck on 31 points - five behind Eaglehawk and four behind Strathdale.

Strathdale had too much class and depth for La Trobe University.

Goals to Daniel Purdy and Jackson Clayton gave the Blues a 2-0 lead at the break before Henry Coventry made it 3-0 nine minutes into the second half.

David Cahill, Alastair Merkel and an own goal completed the scoring for Strathdale.

In the only other division one game played at the weekend, Shepparton South showed it's peaking at the business end of the season by thrashing Moama-Echuca 6-0.

Skipper Joel Aitken was the star of the show for Shepparton South, scoring a hat-trick.

Shaun Kane, Kieryn McKemmish and Kabir Larry Casey Kareem also found the back of the net.

Shepparton South is in sixth place on the ladder with 23 points - just four points behind fourth-placed Moama-Echuca. The top four teams gain home pitch advantage for the first week of the finals.

The highlight of women's championship action on Sunday was La Trobe University's stunning 1-0 upset win over Strathdale.

Olivia Kennedy scored for La Trobe in the 31^st minute and the home side defended stoutly in the second half to earn a crucial three points.

The result keeps Strathdale in fourth spot, with Shepparton South and La Trobe University close behind in fifth and sixth places respectively.

Second-placed Eaglehawk moved to within three points of top side Shepparton United when it defeated Tatura 4-0 at Truscott Reserve.

Tatura kept the Borough at bay for the first half, but once Charlotte Edlin scored in the 50^th minute the flood gates opened.

Edlin scored again three minutes later before Brianna Hamblin and Julia Noorda struck midway through the half.

Spring Gully United sealed a finals berth by thrashing Epsom 6-0.

Paige Conder and Leila Bartolo scored two goals each, while Kiara Cox and Naomi Dawson added one goal each.

With two rounds remaining, the Reds look set to stay in seventh place on the ladder which will result in a likely first final with second-placed Eaglehawk.

In the final games of the round, Shepparton South defeated Moama-Echuca 3-0 on forfeit and Swan Hill was awarded the points and a 3-0 scoreline after Shepparton forfeited.

This weekend is classed as a catch-up round across the league.

In division one, La Trobe University hosts Colts United, Shepparton United is at home to Shepparton, Moama-Echuca travels to Shadforth Park to tackle Golden City and the match of the round is between Tatura and Strathdale at Tatura.

There's only one game in the women's championship this weekend, with Moama-Echuca Border Raiders at home to a Strathdale side looking to bounce back from defeat.
