In the girls division Queensland is in top form, followed by New South Wales and Western Australia.
It's a tight competition in the boys division in a narrow three-way race between NSW, SA and WA for the top spot.
However, the tournament is about much more than winning.
"At the end of the day there will be people who take away medals, but all of the kids are having a great time in Bendigo and have all come a long way in their development from being involved in this competition," championship convenor Ian Landy said.
"The entire tournament is umpired by students which is significant. Not only do the players develop, but Hockey Victoria sends mentors to help work with the umpires."
The final matches will be played at the Hockey Central Victoria fields at Ironbark, with the games commencing from 8.45am today.
