Electricity distribution company Powercor has begun a $10 million upgrade of its Kyneton depot.
The new facility on Redesdale Road will be larger than the current site and will have improved office facilities and storage areas.
"The original building had been built about 40 years ago and was built in a different era to accommodate different equipment and trucks," Powercor head of field services Ross Young said.
"This brand new depot is currently under construction and is due to be completed in the middle of 2020."
Crews and employees at the depot support customers in places like Kyneton, Woodend, Redesdale, Gisborne, and Lancefield.
The 20 Powercor employees that work at the existing Kyneton site will work at the new facility, Mr Young said.
"For our internal employees, its important that we provide a fantastic facility so they can perform their jobs to a high standard without any hazards," Mr Young said.
The new deport will support up to a 25 per cent increase in field resources in the future.
Mr Young said there wouldn't be any disruption to electricity services while construction was underway.
"There will be no interruptions for any members of the public," he said.
"We're really proud that we can invest not only into our depot, but also back into the community that we serve."
