
Bendigo players secured gold medal victories at the School Sport Australia Basketball Championship.
In the boys under-18 division the Victoria Blue team which included Kai Daniels defeated New South Wales by four points in a nail-biting match.
NSW led for most of the game and had a five-point lead at the first break.
Victoria stayed within striking distance and trailed NSW by four points at half time.
During the third quarter NSW only managed to extend the lead by another two points to take a seven-point buffer into the championship deciding final quarter.
However, in the final quarter Victoria came onto the court determined to not be beaten on their home turf at the Bendigo Stadium
The Victorian team fired on all cylinders and was able to outscore NSW 30-19 in the last quarter.
The top-effort helped push Victoria to a four-point lead on the final buzzer, final scores 83-79.
Victoria's win ended NSW's four-year winning streak.
Daniels' younger brother Dash Daniels also represented Victoria at the tournament in the under-12 boys team which finished with a silver medal.
The under-12 Victoria boys team put up a hard-fought effort, but was defeated by Queensland 40-63.
In the under-18 girls, Victoria Blue, which included Tess Barnes was defeated in the championship game by NSW by three points, 56-53.
Bendigo's Amalia Crouch and Amelia Grist also found gold medal glory with the under-12 girls Victoria team which defeated Queensland 64-37.
