The Superoos were always in the box seat after jumping the Mean Machine in the opening term, but were able to withstand the reigning premier's pressure throughout the clash at Mitiamo to win 56-44.

It was Bridgewater's first loss since last season's 40-43 qualifying final defeat by Calivil United, but will not stop the Mean Machine from finishing the regular season in top spot.

Mitiamo, however, has shored up second spot and is headed for a qualifying final showdown against Newbridge in a fortnight's time.

Piercy, who is in her second season as coach at Mitiamo, said the match gave her players 'some gauge' of what to expect come finals time.

"It was a good win, but it's not the business end of the season - we still have a lot of work to do," she said.

"I know they had a player out, whether that would have been the difference or not, I don't know.

"It was a really tough game, but a good game. We got the jump on them with the first couple of centre passes and kept them goal-less for a while, but they did come back."

While Lucy Morcom was awarded the Blue Ribbon Medal as best on court, Piercy lauded an-round team performance.

"Honestly I couldn't pick a best because it was such a team effort," she said.

"We did a lot of rotations, which seemed to work."

The Superoos will look to continue the momentum next week against Marong, which is coming off a bye.

With a bye of their own next week, the Mean Machine will have to wait until August 24 for their next match- a semi-final clash against either Mitiamo or Newbridge.

Their final 15-1 record matched those of Newbridge in 2016 and Mitiamo in 2017, with both sides going on to play in grand finals.

At Marist College, Maiden Gully YCW scored a big win over Inglewood 89-35.

It was the Eagles' second big win in as many weeks after a 45 goal win over Pyramid Hill on July 27.

In other games, Newbridge defeated Bears Lagoon-Serpentine 64-43, and Calivil United beat Pyramid Hill 63-47.
