Castlemaine RnB singer Maya Rose has spent two years perfecting her debut EP Time.
After recording songs for it in 2017, the 20-year-old will launch the EP at the Bridge Hotel in Castlemaine on Friday night ahead of her Melbourne launch on August 10 and Bendigo launch on August 24.
Maya started writing her own songs aged 14. Her first original performances in a local battle of the bands competition gave her the inspiration to pursue music as a career.
"Music has surrounded me from a young age," she said. "My parents introduced me to soul and '90s RnB music (but) during that performance (in 2013) I got a wonderful buzz, that was the beginning."
Since then, Maya has taken every opportunity she could to develop her craft and gain experience.
"I was born here and think a lot of the reputation that Castlemaine has for arts and music has definitely made me who I am," she said.
"It's a normal thing to perform or be involved in the arts. I went to Castlemaine Secondary and they definitely had opportunities and encouragement for us to develop musically and grow as person and artist. Outside of that, there are plenty events, local festivals and open mics to start out on.
"The biggest show I would have done was the Battle and Bands in 2017 at the Theatre Royal. I won that year and it was packed with 500 young teens and one of best shows I have ever had. The energy they were bringing made me play at best."
At the start of the year, Maya released her debut single See You Again.
"After (battle of the bands in 2017) where I got such a great response, I knew I needed to record," she said.
"So I started recording in 2017 and then recorded other three songs in 2018. I had these four songs, and thought it could be an EP. I wanted a project out there to show I was a serious artist in industry.
"Things like this take time but it's finally out and can't believe it because has taken such a long time."
Maya Rose performs at the The Bridge Hotel in Castlemaine on Friday, August 2, The Gaso Hotel in Melbourne on August 10 and Handle Bar in Bendigo on August 24.
