FESTIVALS AND SHOWS
BENDIGO WRITERS FESTIVAL
The annual writers festival takes place in the heart of Bendigo. It showcases more than 150 authors, special guests, forum talks, books, writings and more.
Held over three days, there will be interviews and debates, discussions and much more.
Events are hosted in up to seven different venues with ticket options ranging from a three-day festival pass for all the action, to single-ticket quick picks for feature events.
There will be featured writers such as Paul Davies, Julia Shaw, Maeve O'Meara and Min Jin Lee, plus many more.
There will also be events including Meshel Laurie on why Buddhism is good for you, at The Great Stupa of Universal Compassion; Gastronomy Breakfast with Jill Dupleix and Terry Durack, prepared by Sonia and Nick Anthony from Masons of Bendigo; and many more.

DOG SHOWS
The Bendigo and Eaglehawk kennel clubs are hosting four dog shows over three days in Bendigo.
The event will showcase purebred pooches, with about 500 entered in the various events.
Bendigo Kennel Club will host two championship shows on Saturday. Eaglehawk Kennel Club will host two on Friday and Sunday.
All championship winners will receive a prize and sash for show and group awards.
Where: Prince of Wales Showgrounds, Holmes Road, Bendigo.
When: From Friday, August 2 to Sunday, August 4, from 9am.

EXHIBITIONS
FLIGHTS OF FANTASY
This exhibition presents a selection of work from three artists, combining photo montage, art jewellery and fashion pieces.
The featured artists are illustrator Lorena Carrington, Milton Long and costume designer Ulrike Barbara Von Radichevich.
The works will be presented in the Living Arts Space, a gallery that presents a range of exhibitions and public art programs, showcasing the region's emerging and professional artists.

DANCES
BENDIGO DANCELAND
Greater Bendigo Danceland hosts a social dance each week with music chosen by the group's music directors.
Dances on the program are old-time and new vogue sequence dancing.
There will also be a delicious homemade supper, a monte carlo, lucky door and raffle.
Get involved in this friendly and welcoming group within a heated hall.

EVENING DANCE
Come along to the Spring Gully Hall and enjoy great music by Max Farrah.
The weekend's dance also features a good program and yummy home-cooked supper.
There will also be a raffle and prizes.

NEW VOGUE DANCE
Presented by the Thursday Night Dance Group, this event features new vogue and old-time dances.
The evening will also feature regular musicians and lots of fun.

JAILHOUSE ROCKERS
The Bendigo Jailhouse Rockers Club will be celebrating its 23rd birthday celebrations next week with a country theme.
The dance will include music by the Fender Benders and DJ Flash. There will also be tea and coffee provided.
BYO drinks and nibbles. Members please bring a plate to share.

COMMUNITY EVENTS
SAFETALK AWARENESS
This SafeTALK Workshop will teach attendees about some signs of suicide to look out for.
Attendees can learn how to recognise the signs and how to respond to someone who might be contemplating suicide.
This event teaches the basic TALK steps (tell, ask, listen, keep safe) and much more.

DYING TO KNOW DAY
Do you know what to do when someone you love is dying, caring or grieving?
This Dying to Know Day Expo will teach you all you need to know about dying, death, caring and grieving.
Remembrance Parks Central Victoria is hosting the annual event, which will feature discussions for the end of life, planning and care ahead of time, reducing stress and ensuring wishes are carried out.
The event will also include guest speakers, information and tours of our crematorium.

WRITERS TALK
Kate Forsyth has recently been voted one of Australia's favourite 15 novelists and has been called 'one of the finest writers of this generation'.
This event is a great opportunity to hear Kate speak about her writing and her new book The Blue Rose, released on July 16.
