READ MORE - SATURDAY SCOREBOARD - July 27, 2019
CHARLTON took a major step towards a return to the North Central league finals with a 34-point win over Donald on Saturday.
In the closest game of a one-sided round 13, the 8.19 (67) to 4.9 (33) result now gives the Navies a two-game buffer inside the top four with three rounds remaining.
The Navies missed finals the previous two years following their 2016 flag.
Charlton's inaccurate 8.19 included a combined 1.13 during the first and third quarters - 0.7 in the first and 1.6 in the third.
The Navies' best players were led by Jack Thompson, coach Kain Robins and ruckman Mitchell Gleeson, who continued his top season.
The loss cost Donald its position in the top four, with the Royals again best served by James Wall.
* Wedderburn returned to the top four courtesy of its 99-point win over St Arnaud.
Marc Reiffel and Declan Quin both kicked five goals for the Redbacks in their 21.10 (136) to 5.7 (37) win.
* Boort shaved 123 points off its losing margin from earlier in the year to Birchip-Watchem.
When they last met in round six the Bulls obliterated the Magpies by 210 points.
This time the damage was 87 points; the Bulls winning 17.9 (111) to 3.6 (24).
* And Sea Lake Nandaly thumped Wycheproof-Narraport 17.17 (119) to 1.4 (10); the Demons held to their lowest score this decade.
