MUCH-loved racehorse Subzero "isn't out of the woods yet", but perked up after a visit from his great mate Graham Salisbury and family at the Bendigo Equine Hospital on Friday.
"Subbie" is being treated at the Equine Hospital by vets Sarah Jalim and Mike Whiteford for colic and a related kidney problem.
"We were quite worried about him this morning, but he got some more medicine into him, we drained his abdomen and then Graham and his family came in. The combination of all of those things have perked him up a little bit," Dr Jalim said on Friday.
"Right now at 2pm on Friday he's a lot brighter than he was the day before. He's eating, happier to move around, his ears are pricked and his blood work is better.
"Having said that, I don't think we're out of the woods with him yet, but he's certainly looking much better than he was this morning."
Subzero, 30, won the 1992 Melbourne Cup and has been with the Heathcote-based Salisbury family since 1994 after retiring from racing.
