Making her world championships debut, Strauch finished fifth in her heat in a time of 2:26.25 and advanced to the semi-finals.
In the semi-finals, Strauch went out hard and was in contention to make the final until the early work took its toll and she faded in the final lap.
Strauch finished sixth in her semi-final in a time of 2:26.65 - just 2.47 seconds outside of qualifying for the final.
Strauch's time had her ranked 14th in the world - a great stepping stone towards next year's Olympics in Tokyo.
