Just before lunch on the final day, England passed the follow-on mark and declared its first innings 145 runs behind Australia's total of 8-420.
The Aussies could have batted briskly and set England a total to chase in the final session, but skipper Meg Lanning decided to play safe and ensure Australia retained the Ashes with a draw.
Australia finished 7-230 in its second innings, with Ellyse Perry following her first innings century with an unbeaten 76.
One of the highlights of the final day was a fiery spell from Bendigo 20-year-old Tayla Vlaeminck.
In the first session on Sunday, Vlaeminck had England tailender Laura Marsh jumping and ducking at the crease with a series of fast, well-directed short balls.
Marsh survived a barrage that had television commentators and fans singing Vlaeminck's praise.
Vlaeminck bowled four overs on the final day and finished her Test debut with figures of 0-37 off 11 overs.
While she didn't take a wicket, Vlaeminck showed on a batting-friendly wicket that she has the potential to be a bowling force for Australia for the next decade.
In the short-term, Vlaeminck and her Australian team-mates have the remainder of the Ashes tour to focus on.
The series concludes with three T20 matches, starting on Friday night (AEST).
After the drawn Test match Australia leads the points series 8-2.
England could tie the scores by winning all three T20 matches.
"It's a good position to be in, we came here firstly to retain the Ashes but we still feel like we've got a bit to achieve on this tour," Lanning told cricket.com.au.
"We finished eight-all in the Ashes series in Australia in 2017 and we don't want to feel like that again.
"We know England will come back pretty hard and they're a good T20 side so it's not going to be easy."
