He said the crash occurred when the P-Plate driver of the Holden hatchback ran into the rear of the Holden 4WD ute, which was stationary and waiting to turn right from the McIvor Highway into Cashens Road.

"(The P-plate) driver was not paying enough attention and collided with the stationary vehicle," Leading Senior Constable Andrews said.

"The hatch has then pushed the 4WD ute into the oncoming lane. It was very lucky there was no one else coming the other way.

"Nobody is (seriously) injured or going to hospital. Some of (the people involved) might go for their own check up."

Leading Senior Constable Andrews said distracted driving continued to be a major factor in Bendigo crashes.

"Ninety per cent of the causes of accidents around Bendigo are from people not paying attention to what they're doing," he said.

"There's no excuse for this, just a matter of paying attention and driving the care instead of thinking about whatever else.

"There's no excuse for it. It just a matter of making sure you are paying attention."

Earlier, 4pm: Emergency services are responding after a two-car crash on the McIvor Highway.

A Holden ute and Holden hatchback were involved in the crash at Junortoun's Cashens Road intersection.

The ute is leaking fuel.

No lanes have been blocked but police are monitoring traffic, which has slowed since the crash.

Two CFA units are on scene.
